Last week I wrote about some of my ideas behind my figurative work. This week I'd like to talk about a couple of specific paintings from that group. I was recently asked about Devant Vous I and II. The idea began as a tongue-in-cheek to soap box speakers. The figures are literally standing on top of parts of cardboard boxes. The strong negative shapes of the figures are used as design elements. I like using the cardboard box as an object d’art because it is originally meant to be utilitarian. It also goes along with my love of using found objects and re-purposing them. |
