I want to start today by saying thanks to all of you who recently contacted me after seeing my work in Architectural Digest (March 2010). Many thanks. I have been preparing for two shows next month. With representation from Deljou Art Group at the New York ArtExpo (March 25-28, 2010) @ Pier 94 on the Hudson. And a very special show at Jules Place which is a private gallery in Boston, MA. I'm very excited to be starting with Jules Place since I'm from the state of MA and have not had representation in that region since I've become a professional artist. In previous post to this blog I've mentioned an on going bout with tendinitis and unfortunately things seem to be slightly worse. I have tendinitis in my knees and thumbs. It also appears that I have carpal tunnel syndrome which occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist (source: National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke website). I am receiving good care from my general physician and physical therapist. The good news is that I do not need surgery at this point. Needless to say, my lead times are going to be affected for the duration of therapy. |

This week I wanted to focus on the specific floral series: "In the Meadow"
These are invented as are the rest of my florals. They are serene with a dreamy atmosphere. I wanted these to be an antidote to the busy and hectic lives that we all live. As we keep having to increase our productivity we also have an equal need to have a peaceful space where we can relax. I use a host of techniques and try to keep these painting loose and light to help and create a specific atmosphere. |

Last week I wrote about some of my ideas behind my figurative work. This week I'd like to talk about a couple of specific paintings from that group. I was recently asked about Devant Vous I and II. The idea began as a tongue-in-cheek to soap box speakers. The figures are literally standing on top of parts of cardboard boxes. The strong negative shapes of the figures are used as design elements. I like using the cardboard box as an object d’art because it is originally meant to be utilitarian. It also goes along with my love of using found objects and re-purposing them. |

This week I'm writing about my figurative paintings. They are meant to be about human interactions. The way we relate; the way we communicate. I see them as complementary to the cityscapes which have no depictions of people. In the cityscapes our imprint is there, the connection to humans is implied in the fact that we built them, planned them and intended to use them to interact within. However, all the interactions between people are left for the figurative paintings themselves. I really wanted to remove the architecture and it's inherent influence on us and have that very specific focus: the interaction.
